Dr. Ciara McGlade graduated from University College Cork, MB, BAO, BCh, BMedSc in 2001. She trained in geriatric and general internal medicine and was awarded a diploma in Cerebrovascular and Stroke Medicine from the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland in 2011, and a certificate in palliative medicine form the Irish College of General Practitioners in 2008. She has a special interest in the palliative care of older people and those with non-malignant life limiting conditions. She works as a locum consultant in geriatric medicine in the Mercy University Hospital and as a research fellow in the Centre for Gerontology and Rehabilitation, UCC, where she is currently undertaking a PhD researching on advance care planning and palliative care in long term care in Ireland. She is also part of a group in UCC developing an online education resource in general palliative care.
